Find Joy in Solitude This Holiday Season.

Here’s a crazy thought, spend some time alone this holiday season.

The holidays are meant to be spent with family. A nice sentiment. It is good and healthy to spend time with family and friends. Relationships with others are important but we often neglect the relationship with self.

I have been thinking lately how easily I have overlooked the importance of slowing down. I want to catch my breath and reflect on the year I’ve had, where I went wrong, what I did right, and what I can do better moving forward

By all means, go and eat that Christmas lunch with your friends or your family but at some point this holiday season, I hope you will dare to practice some solitude. I hope you will dare to check in on yourself and see how you are doing.

It may seem self indulgent or even cliche but I have come to believe that the person you should go out of your way to understand, first and foremost is yourself.

There will be times you will involuntarily find yourself isolated from everyone else. When that happens, I hope you will find comfort in the person staring back at you from the mirror. I hope they will not be a stranger but a somewhat familiar and friendly face.

Happy Holidays!
